New Features
Fixed or variable behavior on a category
Each income or expense category can be marked fixed or variable. Obligations and posted entries do not get a new field: the period total uses the category on the line.
What it is for
- See how much of the period is a cost that does not change with volume (rent, software) and how much follows the operation (commission, freight, a one-off purchase)
- Calculate contribution margin: period income minus variable expenses
- Filter the report by cost center to look at one area
How to use it
- In Financial → Categories, open or create a category
- Under Behavior, choose Fixed, Variable, or leave Unclassified
- In Financial → Reports, on the By category tab, see fixed costs, variable costs, and the margin
- Optionally filter by cost center in the report toolbar
A cost with a fixed part and a variable part (energy with a demand charge and usage) becomes two categories. An unclassified category stays on the list and stays out of the three totals. Changing the behavior reclassifies that category's history.

Improvements
Category form scrolls
The create and edit category dialog stays within the screen height. The title stays put and the fields scroll when they do not fit.
Benefits
- Managers split structure cost from cost that grows with sales without posting the amount twice
- The margin is the sum of the categories, for what is already paid and what is still open
